Was going through my e'mail and found this, my favorite reply to a comment I've made ever, from all the way back in May, the 27th to be exact.

Livejournal breeds soap operas. It's like you can sign up for an account with all the good intentions in the world, but over time, it is inevitable that your written life will eventually turn into a melodramatic production. Social hype or subliminal triggers in the layout or something, I don't know, but that's my running theory.
And I'm undecided on whether or not dramatic journals are inherently bad, because, like, life is usually pretty damn dramatic, and if you keep a journal you're probably going to convey that despite your best efforts not to. I think the badness lies in focusing on all the bad drama rather than the good productive positive helpful drama. Mine is all like, "I take meds and fight the system, c'mon and cry for me, everybody." Yours is nicer because you're just like, "Hey everybody, I'm in love with a guy who has a cool accent! WHOOHOOOOOO!!!!" Heh.

on Saturday, June 15th, 2002 02:06 am (UTC)Too bad you've pretty much given the axe to your journal, cause I wish I'd known of it before then. But it's good that you are aware that writing is supposed to be for you and not for an audience, no matter how gratifying and thrilling the latter may be. (hmmm, should this have been a comment to your journal instead of here at Erika's?)
Peace, lollipops and butterflies...
