erikaHad my second opinion appointment with a different psychiatrist on Monday.
He said a few things. One, that I should reconsider lithium or some sort of mood stabilizer—apparently I can get the tests done at the local free clinic. Two, that he wouldn't mess with any of the medication I'm currently on now to switch to an MAOI or tricyclic. Three, that I should consider getting my thyroid tested (um, YES) and treating for subclinical hypothyroidism even if it's not "textbook low."
Interestingly, there is now more to the grilled cheese sandwich story.
So I told you all about the grilled cheese incident. What I didn't tell you is that I brought it up in STEPPS (group therapy) and talked about it there as well. It happened to be a day where no one else really had anything to talk about.
So since yesterday was the last day, we were talking about good things/issues we had with the group, and apparently, my grilled cheese sandwich really pissed someone off.
This is what happened: "I'm upset that we didn't do an emotional continuum when _I_ wanted to" (translation: talk about a problem someone in the group is having) "and instead we talked about, I'm sorry, Erika's fucking stupid grilled cheese sandwich."
OK, A) last time we did a continuum for you you made EVERYONE in the group incredibly uncomfortable with your TMI about how your husband doesn't want to have sex with you.
b) YOU DIDN'T SAY YOU WANTED TO DO ONE AT THE TIME! I admitted my grilled cheese story was dumb and everyone else in the group wanted to hear about it anyway, so um, if you had a problem with it you should've SAID SO AT THE TIME.
c) your "husband" is totally using you to get a green card, just fyi btw (There's a lot of detail behind this but trust me, it's the truth.)
d) No one likes you anyway.
So—as soon as she says "fucking stupid", the group leader goes "ok, I think we're getting a little hostile here, and it's time for us to go anyway, so let's shut this down now."
She then starts SCREAMING about how no one ever listens to her, and storms out. At which point, everyone else was like Let's communally ignore the fact that that just happened because then we had a round of applause for our leaders since they had been so awesome.
(Which I just realized probably sounded to her like we were applauding the fact that she left. Whoops!)
