a bitchy workflow
- Problem on dev release channel of Google Chrome resolving websites. Reset network connection 20 times before realizing that it's Chrome that has the problem.
- Websites open fine in incognito window. Disable all 20+ extensions that cannot be lived without, then test half, then the other half, then half of those, etc.
- Finish extension testing. Somehow, no extension seems to be causing this problem. Cannot figure out why websites would open in incognito window and not in regular window if extensions are not the problem.
- SWEAR PROFUSELY.
- Open entirely different internet browsing program because for some reason there are 3 installed on this computer. ("Why?" is not a question that ever gets asked here. "Why NOT" is more like it.)
- Google resolution in other browser. Contemplate moving entirely to other browser. Realize hatred of other browser has only gotten worse. Feel tears in eyes at thought of losing extensions. Continue to search for any mention of this error and ideally how to fix error.
- No one has posted about this recently on Google Groups. Try old solutions. Brief moment of hope as old solution appears to work. Load new website. Doesn't resolve.
- SWEAR PROFUSELY. Must be a definite dev release bug then.
- Meander over to the chrome release bug website.
- Check list of bugs. Reported in November of 2012. No comments. No work around.
- SWEAR PROFUSELY.
- Google backing up Chrome profile. Back up profile.
- UNINSTALL DEV RELEASE WITH EXTREME PREJUDICE. Debate salting earth but decide that zeroing out installation folder not necessary.
- Download Chrome stable-release-channel. Back up user profile folder while installing. Hit cancel on install because it's going too damn quick. Restart install.
- Start fucking around with websites. Everything loads! Bug is resolved!
- All extension data is, of course, not copied.
- Debate [tears|profuse swearing|drinking alcohol]. Decide to get extension data before other action is taken.
- Google copying extension data. No one else is crazy enough to have complained about this.
- Mine old backup profile for anything with 'extension' in the name. Quit Chrome. (Debate backing up new profile first. Decide to live dangerously.) Copy what looks like relevant folders over.
- Restart Chrome.
- Redo last 2 steps at least 3 times. Extension data wanted is still not being copied. (Why can the relevant folder not be named HERE IS IMPORTANT EXTENSION DATA YOU NEED TO COPY, ERIKA? Noooo, of course not. Instead there are 8 different folders that might have the data wanted. Swear profusely.)
- Eventually feel bitchy enough (I HAVE THE ONLY REAL PROFILE BACKED UP, YOU PIECE OF SHIT) to copy every folder with extension in the name over to the new profile. (Glare at the fact that some random extension feels like it has to literally make a rule about out every livejournal site ever visited and thus there are 500+ folders. Debate clearing those out, decide that not enough fucks are given.)
- Copy all 500000 folders that have 'extension' in the path.
- IT FIXED.
I WIN AT LIFE.
ETA: aahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh motherfucker you didn't copy my gd fucking userscripts over I'm going to KILL EVERYTHING and or possibly just take a rage nap
