maybe I am better off alone
Monday, March 31st, 2008 11:01 pmYou should know, first off, that this is my 3rd or 5th or 9th or subsequent, I've lost count, go round. It always feels like the first.
I send a text message with an unanswerable question:
given x, someone who loves you
prevent y, their departure.
I get no reply because, as I have said, it is not even a koan—the only enlightenment here can be found in his drop of excess baggage.
It's always the unexpected things that hurt the most—not the fact that he is going, I can will that pain away— but a a friend's photo of an empty road stretching into the distance.
