The Weary Blues by Langston Hughes

Droning a drowsy syncopated tune,
Rocking back and forth to a mellow croon,
I heard a Negro play.
Down on Lenox Avenue the other night
By the pale dull pallor of an old gas light
He did a lazy sway. . . .
He did a lazy sway. . . .
To the tune o’ those Weary Blues.
With his ebony hands on each ivory key
He made that poor piano moan with melody.
O Blues!

He's a really useful engine. So sayeth the sacred texts surrounding star of at least one million mods Thomas the Tank Engine. He's also a really fast engine. Or, at least one of his mates is. So demonstrateth the social media clips I've been watching of folks going as fast as possible in Thomas & Friends: Wonders of Sodor. One of them's confirmed that it's possible to beat the real life world speed record for steam trains - which has stood since 1938 - in the freshly released train game.

Every Thursday, we have a community post, just like this one, where you can drop a rec or five in the comments.

This works great if you only have one rec and don't want to make a whole post for it, or if you don't have a DW account, or if you're shy. ;)

(But don't forget: you can deffo make posts of your own seven days a week. ;D!)

So what cool other kinds of fanworks/fancrafts/fanart/fics/fanvids/podfics have we discovered this week? Drop it in the comments below. Anon comment is enabled.

BTW, AI fanworks are not eligible for reccing at recthething. If you aware that a fanwork is AI-generated, please do not rec it here.

The Ugreen Nexode Retractable is our most favouritest Steam Deck power bank, as James decreed with his testing, and by spending his hard-earned money on it – and if it's good enough to earn a top recommendation here, then it's worth you giving it a look over. £52 is a good price for this unit from Amazon, and a price it strangely wasn't during Amazon's Spring Sale last week.

In the USA, it's $80 - a 20% reduction on its $100 MSRP. It has sat at this price for the last couple of weeks, and has gone for less in the past, but it's still a reasonable deal.

Amazon Resale (formerly the Amazon Warehouse) can occasionally throw up a decent deal on computing hardware, just as long as you don't mind a damaged box or perhaps a missing manual. In this instance, it's allowing for this MSI RTX 5070 Ventus 3X graphics card to drop down to below its MSRP - an actual discount down to £449 for a 'Used - Like New' card - something that seems very rare, given the current RAM crisis and such.

Tomb Raider developers Crystal Dynamics have announced their fourth round of layoffs in 12 months. A total of 20 staff across development and central operations roles have been let go this time, with Crystal Dynamics emphasising they're still "fully committed" to Tomb Raider: Catalyst and Tomb Raider: Legacy Of Atlantis.

In March last year, 17 Crystal Dynamics staffers were given their marching orders, with an unspecified number of others being let go in August, and "just under 30" following in November.

Here's a collection of photos I took today at the beach I go to. It's not normally so dressed up, but at the moment they are having the Sculptures by the Sea exhibition, so it's a lot more popular during weekdays than usual. The swimmers get it back after next weekend. I took these photos around five o'clock this afternoon.

And some more detail is available on that bunker ad, I mean exhibit....

Bang. 29 bullets left. Bang, bang, bang, rattatata. 14 bullets left. I'd better reload, in case someone comes around that corner and I need a full clip on hand to empty into then. NO. THINK ABOUT THE BULLETS YOU'RE USING, Valve yell from their giant Steam-powered tower looming high above the battlefield. I look at my magazine and notice that following the latest Counter-Strike 2 update, it now bears a post-it note saying that if I reload early, the leftover ammo will be lost to the mists of time.

It's challenge time!

Comment with Just One Thing you've accomplished in the last 24 hours or so. It doesn't have to be a hard thing, or even a thing that you think is particularly awesome. Just a thing that you did.

Feel free to share more than one thing if you're feeling particularly accomplished! Extra credit: find someone in the comments and give them props for what they achieved!

Nothing is too big, too small, too strange or too cryptic. And in case you'd rather do this in private, anonymous comments are screened. I will only unscreen if you ask me to.

Go!
