I know I have things to say, I just ... don't have the words to say them.

With that in mind, I'm opening the field to questions.

All comments will be screened—I will answer them (and anonymize the senders) in future entries.

Please ask whatever comes to mind—I'll make sure it is answered, whatever it is.

I need to talk; I just need direction.

Would anyone be interested in seeing me work through some workbooks for borderline personality disorder, mindfulness, etc?

I could take suggestions after I work through a book or two.

I feel that this would be beneficial in that it would instill some accountability and responsiveness through commenting. Plus I hate writing in books.

The posts would probably not be public, requiring that you a) have a dreamwidth journal or lj account, b) request access to my journal and c) request access to a filter, UNLESS enough people comment that they would prefer them to be public.

(Note: the reason I'm filtering is NOT for privacy, but to avoid spamming people with entries they don't want. Thus my hesitation over which to do.)

They would always be behind a cut, and any comments would always be screened, thus ensuring people's privacy.

Or maybe I should make this into a community and we could all get the same books and work through them together? What do you think?

It all started with [personal profile] dingsi's FONSFAQ Germany project, and then, it kind of snowballed into many FONSFAQ projects!

So with some encouragement, I'm here to offer a Frequently (or not so frequently) Asked Questions about Mental Illness!

Basically (wording stolen from [personal profile] dingsi), I figured that there are 1. people who might be curious about certain aspects of being a person with mental illness or mental illness in general, and 2. people who are mentally ill / have an interest in the subject who might be willing to share their thoughts, knowledge and opinions. This project is basically about bringing the two together.

I sincerely hope this is going to be interesting and fun!

How to participate:
It's quite simple, really!

  • Leave a comment with your inquiry or, if you already have a topic in mind you'd like to write about, feel free to write something about it and link back here! (Please comment with a link to your entry, ofc.)

  • Go through the prompts and when you think you can claim one, reply to it (i.e. sign up).

To make things easier, please use the words "prompt" or "taken" in the subject line of your comment!

Due to the sensitive nature of the topic,
all anonymous comments will be screened.
I will unscreen them as time allows
and under my own discretion.
If you see any dipshittery going on,
please alert me to it. (PM or email.)

In addition, although I'd like to note that my own experience is primarily with depression and forms of anxiety, any and all mental illness questions are welcome here!

One of my best friends, Anne ([livejournal.com profile] silent_lorelei), has recently suffered a catastrophic data crash. They think her hard drive IS recoverable, but the price she's been quoted is 300 dollars.

She has no access to that kind of money and is barely scraping by as it is. (This was the backup hard drive that crashed, because her REGULAR hard drive crashed less than a week ago. It was a perfect storm—she literally had just loaded her OS/files on the backup hard drive and was preparing to make a new backup and it crashed.)

While I know there are greater tragedies out there more deserving of your money, there's something that's hit very close to home for me and all I'm asking for is 5 or 10 bucks. You can make a real difference in one of my very close friend's life.

Her paypal address is amyers AT greensborocollege DOT edu

Read more about what she lost (scans of family photos that are now lost, etc). Read about how long it would, best guess, take to recover/redownload the things that are still recoverable. Most of what she lost is not recoverable, including novels she wrote in various forms of completion and music/books she legally paid for and downloaded that don't offer redownload capability.

Like I said, I know there are other tragedies out there that are possibly more deserving, but she's one of my best friends and this has really hit her very hard, and 5 bucks is really not too much to ask for, I hope.

I will be donating 100 dollars
as soon as I have any money,
in case you're wondering.
